COOLING BOX FOR ICOM IC706MKIIg

After reading about something similar on the web,I made my own version of this cooling box.

It's a sloped support,that keeps the radio at the perfect angle,for an easy access to the tiny buttons,with a pc case fan (120 by 120 mm).

In the lower part of the 706MKIIg there are some openings,from were the internal fan takes the air,that after cooling the electronics,exits the casings from the slots between the rear heat sink.

The fan installed in the cooling box is

1)providing more air to the internal fan

2)it cools off the bottom cover of the radio,increasing the temperature difference between the cover and the electronics inside,removing heat.

In my opinion,I think that the effect of the point 2 is more evident than the one at point 1.

As shown in the pictures,I've installed some rubber feet,about 1 cm long.

After few tests I realized that,in order to increase the air flow to the fan this gap must be wider.For this I'm going to replace the actual feet with some longer ones,4 cm at least.
